Our Music & how it’s done

Hi, In this blog post will i go through the though process and the actual process behind how our music is made.

So firstly, i’m Fritjof J. Berger, the composer for this game. All be it that music was needed in this game from a criteria point of view, it felt needed to for it to feel completed. With my limited but long history with music i decided that i would do this on the side of doing modeling and animations.

My work is done in a free software called Garage Band, which comes with every Apple computer out there. This software is great for entry level composers as my self, although i’m feeling its limitations. I can’t properly use it’s functions without limiting my creativity, which i feared would make the music sound janky or worse deafening. A quick work around is to find inspiration through old games and simple indie games who manage to do a lot with little. So by delving into those songs i found plenty of inspirations.

I took a lot from composer David Wise of Donkey Kong fame and Disasterpeace of Fez fame, and tried to mold that into a sound that felt fitting for a trek through dark lands decrepit lands. In total i made around 25 songs of varying quality and many more sketches. In the end only 5 got into the game so far, altho 2 of them are higher tempo versions of 2 songs all ready in game.

Heres one, Called «The Dance of The Mushrooms» featured as the theme for our level 2, Enjoy!
